Chromebook, Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, anything else coming that I will NEED to buy?
I’m still planning on buying my Acer Chromebook by the end of the year to satisfy all of my cloud computing needs and as my new machine for writing my book via Google Docs. I have an aversion to Microsoft although Windows 8 is looking good and is supposed to have a 17 second boot so that might be the best version of Windows to come along since Windows 95.
Today we have the unveiling of the new Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet and it wraps up all of my amazon cloud services into a nice bundle. Nothing I won’t already have on my Chromebook but I’m thinking my wife might like this especially for downloading her magazines in color since we are both trying to end all print/ paper magazine subscriptions. Amazon was really brilliant with this because they are offering 1 month of Amazon Prime (free streaming movies and TV plus free 2 day shipping on everything). Once people get Prime hooked into them you can be sure they will be paying the $79 yearly subscription to keep it. The device itself is $199 and the Prime service is where they will really make the money to subsidize that low $199 cost. Brilliant I tell you!!!
So is there anything else coming? I hope not!!!
You’re on the right track. A Chromebook is basically a high-powered Kindle Fire with a keyboard. I’m surprised more people are not making comparisons between the two. If Google wants to promote and protect its cloud-based content and services, they are going to have to respond with a low-price Chromebook tablet in the near future. I have a feeling it will be sooner, not later.
